How fit do I need to be to do this trek?

Annapurna Base Camp is a Grade B or a moderately difficult trekking route. So any fit person can do this trek, even if you do not have any previous experience. You should be aware of what to expect and mentally prepare for it. Then, as long as you will too, you can.

How long do we walk every day when doing Annapurna Base Camp trekking?

On average, you walk about 4 to 6 hours per day. One or two days can be as less as 3hrs and one or two days can be as long as 7hrs.

What is the highest altitude reached in this trek?

The highest altitude reached is 4190m. This is the elevation of Annapurna Base Camp. ABC is the highest we will climb in this trek.

What about battery charging and hot shower facilities?

Yes, you can charge batteries en route. Charger should be brought. There are hot shower facilities as well. You may have to pay a certain amount for both ($1-$2). Negotiate. Also, a hot water facility could be free at a lower elevation.

Are there ATMs on the way to Annapurna Base Camp?

No. There are no ATMs on this trek route. You will have to draw enough cash in Pokhara or Kathmandu. There are a number of ATMs in these cities. Everything is paid in Nepali rupees. So money should be exchanged before the start of the trek.

What about internet access?

Yes. The Internet can be accessed in most places. Sometimes, there might be some technical problems. The Internet in Nepal is not as fast as you are used to and at times you can just lose connection.

Is it necessary to hire Guides/trekking agency for Annapurna Base Camp trekking?

Not really. It depends on you. If you want, ABC trekking can be done independently. You could hire a guide and a porter by yourself instead of going through an agency or not hire a guide at all. Although, not having a guide can be a little problematic during the offseason. It really depends on you. Is it your first time in Nepal? How confident are you of being able to find your way around? How pressed on time are you? If you go through an agency, it will be costlier but everything will be planned. You will only have to come, trek and return.

How much do guides and porters cost?

For the Annapurna region, pay for guides range from $20 to $30 per day and porters take $15 to $25 per day.

Day 1 :

From Siliguri to Bhareng drive

Today you will be driven towards Bhareng, which is the
starting point for the Sandakphu-Phalut trek. It is an uphill
drive of about 130 kilometers and takes about 7 hours.
Breakfast is not included in the trek cost, however we will
pause for meals. After breakfast, we will resume our journey
again towards Bhareng, which is a pretty picturesque village
in Sikkim. You will stay in a homestay for the night, as you
reach there you can freshen up, stroll around for short walks
and then have dinner and rest for the following day.

Day 2 :

From Bhareng to Gorkhey

In early morning after breakfast, we will start our trek from
Bhareng. We will reach Gorkhey, almost 3km from bhareng.
There we will spend some quality time beside the Gorkhey
river. Gorkhey is a spell-bound village. Then we will start our
trek for Samanden which is only 1km. Its called Silent Valley
/Lost Valley A.KA. Mini Switzerland of West Bengal. After
reaching Samanden we will complete our lunch and then we
will go towards pine forest nearby. Today we will explore
samanden valley. In evening we will get some snacks and in
night dinner too. Night stay at Samanden.

Day 3 :

From Gorkhey to Phalut

Today we will begin early in the morning and trek from
Samaden to Phalut. It is about 15 kilometers of trek and might
take around 8 hours. Phalut is one of the highest points of the
Singalila Range, and the second highest point after the
Sandakphu ridge. On your way to Phalut you will get to see the
Singalila Range closely and you can get a stunning view of the
Kanchenjunga. The closer you get to Phalut the more beautiful
the landscape gets. As you reach Phalut, you can have a
delicious dinner, then rest. Keep in mind that Phalut does not
have electricity, so keep extra batteries and power banks with
you for your gadgets.

Day 04 :

From Phalut to Thokum

Today, we will trek towards Thokum, a beautiful village located
in Nepal, so we will be skirting the Indo-Nepal border into
Nepal. On our way, you might spot a few yaks and cross a few
meadows. Although it is a remote and unknown location, the
views here are stunning and extremely admirable. The route to
Thokum is also lined with a thicket of Rhododendron trees that
remain covered in snow during the winters. From Thokum you
can witness the sleeping Buddha formation in the backdroр
as you cross some abandoned huts and cattle grounds. We
will have dinner, then rest in tent for the next day's trekking.

Day 05 :

From Thokum to Sandakphu

Today is the the most challenging phase of your trek, The trail
will test your endurance to the limit. Once reaching the summit,
all your hard work will pay off, as you will witness the wonder
called Sleeping Buddha at its full glory. Sandakphu has the
distinction of offering the view of 4 of the top 5 highest
mountain peaks of the world. Apart from Kanchenjungha, it
also offers the view of Mt Makalu and Lhotse along with several
other high peaks of the Himalayas. On reaching Sandakphu,
you can settle down to explore the area. Your aching muscles
will beg you to call it an early night, but make a mental note to
wake up early enough to catch the most beautiful sunrise ever.

Day 06 :

From Sandakphu to Srikhola

Today will be the last day of your trekking. After breakfast we
will start trekking towards Shrikhola (also known as Sirikhola).
As you head towards Srikhola, you will come across Gurdum, a
postcard-perfect village with only 4-5 dwellings. It is one of
the remote Himalayan villages, surrounded by forests and
mountains. It is a 14 kilometers descent trek to Srikhola and
might take up to 7-8 hours. You will stay in a homestay for the
night, as you reach there you can freshen up, then have dinner
and rest for the following day.

Day 07 :

From Srikhola to Siliguri

Today will be the last day in the mountains. Your beautiful
journey to Sandakphu ends today. After Breakfast, we will say
good bye to the mountains and set out for our home. We will
drive back to NJP. Lunch is not included in the trek cost,
however we will pause for meals. You will return with a lot of
memories and adventures from the mountains. After reaching
NJP in the evening, then you can continue with your further
journey.
