How fit do I need to be to do this trek?

Annapurna Base Camp is a Grade B or a moderately difficult trekking route. So any fit person can do this trek, even if you do not have any previous experience. You should be aware of what to expect and mentally prepare for it. Then, as long as you will too, you can.

How long do we walk every day when doing Annapurna Base Camp trekking?

On average, you walk about 4 to 6 hours per day. One or two days can be as less as 3hrs and one or two days can be as long as 7hrs.

What is the highest altitude reached in this trek?

The highest altitude reached is 4190m. This is the elevation of Annapurna Base Camp. ABC is the highest we will climb in this trek.

What about battery charging and hot shower facilities?

Yes, you can charge batteries en route. Charger should be brought. There are hot shower facilities as well. You may have to pay a certain amount for both ($1-$2). Negotiate. Also, a hot water facility could be free at a lower elevation.

Are there ATMs on the way to Annapurna Base Camp?

No. There are no ATMs on this trek route. You will have to draw enough cash in Pokhara or Kathmandu. There are a number of ATMs in these cities. Everything is paid in Nepali rupees. So money should be exchanged before the start of the trek.

What about internet access?

Yes. The Internet can be accessed in most places. Sometimes, there might be some technical problems. The Internet in Nepal is not as fast as you are used to and at times you can just lose connection.

Is it necessary to hire Guides/trekking agency for Annapurna Base Camp trekking?

Not really. It depends on you. If you want, ABC trekking can be done independently. You could hire a guide and a porter by yourself instead of going through an agency or not hire a guide at all. Although, not having a guide can be a little problematic during the offseason. It really depends on you. Is it your first time in Nepal? How confident are you of being able to find your way around? How pressed on time are you? If you go through an agency, it will be costlier but everything will be planned. You will only have to come, trek and return.

How much do guides and porters cost?

For the Annapurna region, pay for guides range from $20 to $30 per day and porters take $15 to $25 per day.

Hampta Pass is a stunning high-altitude mountain pass located in Himachal Pradesh, connecting the lush green Kullu Valley with the arid landscapes of the Lahaul and Spiti Valley. Situated at an altitude of around 4,270 meters (14,100 ft), it is one of the most popular treks for beginners due to its moderate difficulty and breathtaking scenery. The trek usually takes 4–6 days, starting from Jobra near Manali and ending at Chatru, with an optional visit to the beautiful Chandratal Lake. The best time to visit is from mid-June to September, when the trails are clear and the weather is favorable. Hampta Pass offers a dramatic contrast between vibrant meadows, dense forests, and snow-capped peaks on one side, and the stark, barren beauty of Spiti on the other. Trekkers can enjoy river crossings, waterfalls, and camping under starry skies, making it an unforgettable Himalayan experience.

Day 1 :

Drive Manali to Jobra and trek to Chika (9,780 ft) | 2 km trek

Report at the designated meeting point in Manaliby 9:00 am (details shared prior to departure).
Meet your trek leader, freshen up, and get briefed for the journey.
Drive from Manali to Jobra, enjoying panoramic views of Kullu Valley.
Begin the trek from Jobra towards Chika, walking through pine and maple forests, wooden bridges, and alongside the Rani Nallah stream.
Reach Chika, settle into the campsite, and relax amidst the mountain views.
Dinner and overnight stay in tents at Chika.

Day 2 :

Trek Chika to Balu ka Ghera (11,800 ft) | 9 km

Wake up early and have breakfast at the campsite.
Start trekking towards Balu Ka Ghera with the Hampta River flowing beside you.
Trail begins with green meadows before shifting to boulder and rocky terrain.
Enjoy spectacular views of the Dhauladhar range en route.
Arrive at Balu Ka Ghera, check into the campsite, and rest.
Dinner and overnight stay in tents at Balu Ka Ghera.

Day 3 :

Trek Balu ka Ghera to Hampta Pass (14,100 ft), Descend to Shea Goru (12,500 ft) | 7–8 km trek

Begin early morning trek after breakfast.
Ascend steadily over rocky patches and glacial slopes towards Hampta Pass.
Reach the top of Hampta Pass (14,100 ft) for breathtaking views of Deo Tibba and contrasting landscapes of Kullu and Lahaul valleys.
Spend some time at the pass before starting the descent.
Trek down carefully through loose soil and rocky sections to Shea Goru.
Arrive at Shea Goru campsite, unwind and enjoy dinner.
Overnight stay in tents at Shea Goru.

Day 04 :

Trek Shea Goru to Chhatru (10,900 ft) | 6–7 km trek, Drive to Chandratal (14,100 ft) & back

Trek downhill from Shea Goru towards Chhatru, crossing streams and moraine-filled terrain.
Reach Chhatru, a junction of Hampta, Spiti, and Rohtang valleys.
Rest and have lunch at Chhatru before setting off for Chandratal.
Drive through Lahaul’s rugged landscapes to reach Chandratal Lake (14,100 ft).
Witness the turquoise waters of the crescent-shaped “Moon Lake” and enjoy the serene setting.
Spend time at Chandratal, then drive back to Chhatru campsite.
Dinner and overnight stay in tents at Chhatru.

Day 05 :

Drive Chhatru to Manali via Atal Tunnel / Rohtang Pass | ~85 km

Have breakfast and check out from the campsite.
Drive back to Manali via Atal Tunnel / Rohtang Pass.
Arrive in Manali by afternoon.
Explore Old Manali cafés or market if time allows before departure.
Trek ends with unforgettable Himalayan memories.
